LATEST NEWS - 26 July 2004

PAINTING WALLS
National Tidy Towns judging takes place in July/August, so we would appreciate if householders would paint any walls which haven't been painted in a while.

ANNALY PARK
We compliment all involved, especially the young people, for tidy ups of back lanes at Annaly Park.

FLOWERS
Well done to the many areas organising flower displays at common green areas. Examples include Connolly Crescent, Ardnacassa, Shannonvale, Farnagh Hill, McEoin Park, Greenfields, Leanna Aoibhinn, Annaly Gardens. There are many other areas and we'd like to say thanks to everyone for their efforts.

TEMPLEMICHAEL COLLEGE
The college grounds, shrubbery and trees have looked so well over the last year. Indeed we highlighted this area in our Tidy Towns application this year. The College has been the first secondary school in the town to participate in the 'Green Schools' programme and the results are clear to see. The recent resurfacing of the entrance area is very welcome and has helped to finally bring the entrance up the standard of the rest of the grounds. Keep up the good work. .

CONNOLLY BARRACKS
Well done to all involved for the restoration work carried out on the on the wall facing Church Street. We also congratulate the Barracks for the landscaping, flowers etc at the entrance area on Church Street.

ESTATE LITTER COMPETITION
Judging of estates started on 26 July. This competition compares estates against each other in a league competition. This year additional areas have been added and these include Laurels, Greenfields, Cloncoose and Foynescourt.

GARDEN COMPETITION
Judging of estates also started on 26 July.

FARNEYHOOGAN
Well done to the residents of Farneyhoogan for the many gardens and flower displays. This is one of the newer estates in Longford and it is great to see tidiness playing such an important part in the life of this new estate.
