LATEST NEWS - 23 Feb 2004

MEETING
Our monthly meeting takes place this Thursday 26 February at 5.00.

WELL DONE
We compliment residential areas from time to time. This week we'd like to acknowledge the very well maintained areas at Park Court, Midara Gardens and Foynes Court.

CANAL, MALL AND CAMLIN
The improvements at the rear corner of the Mall near the old bridge are really pleasing - and are much appreciated by the numerous people who walk in the Mall area. Another common walk area is the Canal where there have also been many improvements including new trees, benches, bird boxes, hedge. The peaceful appearance of the swan in the Canal also attracts many walkers to this area. The work by the Council at the River Camlin between Church Street and Water Street is also a wonderful development - this was an important area in old Longford and it is gradually coming back to being a major asset again.

PAINTING
We organised the painting of a number of poles at the approach areas into town and this work has brightened up the roundabouts in particular. .

RESIDENTIAL COMMITTEES
We are keen to create tidy towns/ residential committees in each area of the town and would be grateful if you would contact us (087 9633868 / 086 8205131) if you are interested in participating or email info@longfordtidytowns.com.

GRAFFITI
Well done to those who promptly removed graffiti from the wall at the Railway Station car park and the wall at the rear of Supervalu. We encourage other property owners to paint over any graffiti.

RACE NIGHT
We hold a Race night at Longford Greyhound Track in April to raise badly needed funds for 2004. Tickets costing ?6 each each are available from any committee member. We are also seeking sponsorship of races, dogs etc and would appreciate any support that can be given..
