What Did I Do?
When your grandchildren ask you in the future what you did
to make our town a pleasant place to live, what will your answer
be? We really need new volunteers and the town would benefit so
much if more buildings were painted. Over to you!
2004
Estimates
Weekly tidy-ups have removed an average of twenty bags of litter
every week for the last 54 weeks. Our experience shows that all
the areas tidied become heavily littered again within 4-5 weeks
at most and in the case of some parts of the town, within days.
IBAL's
surveys of other towns show that even the best towns have to keep
doing this work every week or their rating slips rapidly. For example
Carlow fell from Number 1 to number 12 rapidly this year.
We
earnestly hope that both Longford Town Council and Longford Co Council
will allocate the required resources to do this work in 2004, not
only in the town area but the critical approach roads. You only
get one chance to make a first impression.
Presentation
Evening
Longford Town Council hosted a function to honour winners of best
estates, gardens etc last week. We say a big congratulations to
all award winners and thank the Council for the evening.
Athlone Road
Weekly tidy ups continue and last weekend we removed a total
of thirteen bags of litter from along the Athlone Road and a further
six from other approach roads, mainly the area around the Dublin
Road roundabout. Even after all our work this year, we were taken
aback at the level of litter on these roads.
