*** NATIONAL TIDY TOWNS 2007

Longford Town increased its marks in the 2007 National Tidy Towns competition to 252, a big increase of 21 points on last year.

According to the Tidy Towns judges’ report published today, Longford is now tidier than its four neighbouring large towns; Roscommon (248), Cavan (247), Mullingar (235) and Athlone (227). Six years ago, Longford Town had lower marks in the Tidy Towns competition than each of these other four towns!

The Longford Tidy Towns committee warmly congratulates Newtowncashel, Abbeyshrule, Ardagh, Barry and Cullyfad for their awards in this year’s Tidy Towns competition.

We have always been inspired by Ardagh and Newtowncashel and it is great to see these and other Longford communities doing so well in the National Tidy Towns competition. Longford Town still has a lot of work to do to win a National Title but I think people of Longford Town are beginning to realise that involvement by everyone can deliver a National Title. Longford people now know that a Title is a possibility, not just a dream - this is another day when all the people of Longford Town (including staff of both Councils) can be very proud.

A full report can be viewed on the Tidy Towns website (link to PDF document).
